Availability calendars, association sites

January 16, 2009 19:48 by Ben

UPDATE 1/23: A small number of users reported that their availability calendars were not showing the "next" and "previous" month navigation. This was due to the fact that some users made setting changes to this area last Friday, which were not properly saved, and caused some calendars to display a single month. To fix this problem, please log in to your Webervations account, go to your availability calendar settings, and set the calendar to display multiple months. Also, if any of your display settings are not correct (e.g. the "booked" graphic is wrong), make sure to reset that value and save it. It will then take about 1 hour for the changes to run through the system, after which your availability page should be correct.

UPDATE 1/19 1:00p CST: Some users have reported that the 2 month calendars (webervations_2_month.asp) were not updating.  This issue is now resolved.

UPDATE 1/17 4:30p CST: all availability issues with calendars and assocation sites are resolved now.

Also, some users are reporting that their embedded javascript (.js) availability calendars are not displaying.  We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible and should have this issue resolved very soon.

Hello everyone, we've received reports from some users that availability calendars are not showing accurate availability, and some association sites are not showing correct availability. We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible, and will keep you updated.

Webervations signon page access problems

January 16, 2009 15:30 by Ben

If you are having trouble accessing the Webervations signon page (https://updates.webervations.com/magic-scripts/input/avsignon.asp), please try temporarily using this login link instead:  https://64.244.121.82/magic-scripts/input/avsignon.asp.

You may get a browser security warning.  If you are using Internet Explorer, click "Continue to this website", and if you are using Firefox, click "Add exception" and then "OK" in the dialog that opens.  This occurs because the security certificate is tied to updates.webervations.com, not to 64.244.121.82.  Your data will still be secure, it is just the browser warning you about a potential problem.

This particular issue is related to DNS (domain name server) updates, which unfortunately we don't have a lot of control over. Whenever you move systems like we have, the physical address (IP Address) can change, and so the backend systems that handle the translation of domain names (e.g. www.webervations.com) to physical locations (e.g. our servers which moved from Ohio to Austin TX) have to update themselves to get the new physical location. We did send out DNS updates with the new physical location prior to today in order to minimize this problem, but not all the servers on the internet have these updates yet, and so you may just have to wait for those updates to apply. Unfortunately, we don't have control over how often these servers update -- your internet provider and the various internet providers that they work with do. For today, using the alternate URL above allows you to bypass this translation and go directly to the new physical location. I would expect to see any issues like this fix themselves today or tonight.

January 16, 2009 11:42 by Ben

All images have propagated should be online and working now.  If you notice any problems with images, please post in the comments the exact website address (URL) that has the missing image or images so that we can investigate. Please do make sure you post the actual location of the image (website address or booking page address -- just copy this from the address bar at the top of your browser) so that we can resolve this is as quickly as possible.

UPDATE: 1/17 4:30 PM CST: all images should now show the correct version.

Thanks!

Webervations status update -- Munsenware Guest Tracker users

January 16, 2009 10:57 by Ben

If you are a Guest Tracker user (or are using another FTP based program, as listed here) and you are getting errors when connecting to Webervations, it is one of two issues:

Also, there may be a longer than normal delay this morning in uploads / downloads from Guest Tracker.  This will be resolved in the next few hours.

Webervations system status update -- what to do if some pages don't load

January 16, 2009 09:32 by Ben

Hello everyone,

We're getting reports that some pages are not loading for some customers (guest booking pages, as well as admin site pages).   For the majority of folks, these pages are working just fine, and we are seeing quite a few reservations come through the system as well, so it's fairly isolated.

The problem is most likely due to stale DNS (domain name server) records either on your local computer or at your internet provider.  DNS is what is responsible for making sure that internet traffic gets sent to the right place.  For example, when you visit www.webervations.com you are actually visiting a physical IP address, but you never see this because the traffic gets routed behind the scenes by the DNS servers to the destination address.  Well, when we moved the system to Texas, the IP address changed, so if the DNS server has the wrong destination address (the old IP) then you may get a "page not found" error.

So what to do about it?

First of all, this will fix itself pretty quickly -- your internet provider and / or computer just needs to get the up to date DNS records and then you'll be pointed to the correct destination.  You can also force an update on your local computer by doing the following:

Windows XP: Go to the Start menu. Click Run. In the box, type the following and press Enter:
cmd

A command window should appear. Type the following and press Enter:
ipconfig /flushdns

Windows Vista: Go to the Start menu, and in the search box, type the following and press Enter:
cmd

A command window should appear. Type the following and press enter:
ipconfig /flushdns

You can also temporarily log in to the Webervations admin site by using the following link:  https://64.244.121.82/magic-scripts/input/avsignon.asp

You will probably get a browser security warning when you do this -- in Internet Explorer, click the option for "continue to this website", and in Firefox, click the option for "add an exception".  This error occurs because the browser is looking for a security certificate which is tied to webervations.com.  The site is still secure but until you can access the correct address (e.g. https://updates.webervations.com/magic-scripts/input/avsignon.asp), the browser will give you a security warning.

Webervations system status update -- images not appearing

January 16, 2009 09:23 by Ben

In some cases, images may not appear in the guest booking pages, assocation pages, or admin sites.  This is due to the fact that some images are still being propagated over from the old servers.

We expect to have this problem resolved in the next few hours, and appreciate your patience.

UPDATE: This problem was resolved on Friday 1/16.  All images are appearing as of 5pm CST.

Webervations system status

January 16, 2009 07:39 by Ben

Good morning everyone,

The switchover went well, and all core systems are online, including guest bookings, admin sites, and PMS software uploads.  The following issues still exist:

  • Some header / footer images in the guest booking pages and admin sites may not appear, as the images are still being propagated.
  • Graphical availability calendars were not updated (usually these are rebuilt every night), and may not show any changes made in the last 24 hours.  These calendars will be updated in the next 24 hours.
  • There may be a delay in emails sent to support@webervations.com or info@webervations.com.  We're working to fix this as quickly as possible.

We'll keep you posted when these issues are resolved, and give you additional updates with any other status changes.

UPDATE: All issues listed above should be resolved as of 1/17 4:30 PM CST.
